RHP Seth Lugo |
The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees 2-0 tonight to snap their eight-game losing streak and improved their record to 28-34. The offense went scoreless in the first four innings against Yankees ace RHP Luis Severino, but broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning after 3B Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer. This was Frazier's second consecutive game with a homer. After Frazier's homer, they weren't able to score any more runs, but that was enough offense to hold on to the win. Frazier and LF Brandon Nimmo are the only two hitters that are contributing right now. Nimmo finished off a fine series going 1-3 with a walk.
RHP Seth Lugo had an outstanding start with six scoreless innings. Lugo gave up no walks and allowed two hits. He had 8 strikeouts. He picked up his second win of the season. Lugo has been outstanding in the rotation and bullpen. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. RHP Anthony Swarsak came in the top of the ninth to close it out in Jeurys Familia's absense and pitched a scoreless inning and picked up his first save of the season.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action Tuesday night at the Atlanta Braves at 7:35 P.M.
