Adrian Gonzalez |
The New York Mets announced last night after the game that they are giving first baseman Adrian Gonzalez an unconditional release and plan to call up first baseman Dominic Smith. They also designated catcher Jose Lobaton for assignment and called up Ty Kelly from Triple-A Las Vegas. Gonzalez hit .237 with 6 homer and 26 RBI's in his brief time here. This is Smith's second stint with the Mets this year and had one previous at-bat. He hit .260 with 16 doubles and 25 RBI's for Triple-A Las Vegas. Gonzalez did an admirable job when he was here. Even though he wasn't the same hitter he used to be, he had some good moments such as a grand slam against the Padres. He still had a great glove and helped make some nice plays at 1B. I wish him the best in his future.
