Mets vs. Diamondbacks Game 68 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 30-38. In the top of the first inning, LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by 3B Todd Frazier. In the top of the sixth inning, Nimmo and Cabrera both reached base, but RF Jay Bruce struck out for the last out of the inning. In the top of the seventh inning, SS Jose Reyes and pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores both walked, but Nimmo struck out to end the inning. In the top of the ninth inning, Reyes singled with two outs, pinch-hitter Jose Bautista hit an RBI double, Nimmo hit a go-ahead two run homer and then Cabrera followed with a solo homer. Nimmo had three hits and Cabrera had two hits.

RHP Zack Wheeler started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up an RBI double to LF Daniel Peralta and wound up loading the bases. Wheeler gave up another run on an RBI ground-out, but was able to limit to damage to two runs. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. His final line was three hits, two runs, two walks, and three strikeouts in six innings. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but picked up his third win of the season. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 P.M.
