Mets vs. Cubs Game 55 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler
The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4 tonight and dropped their record under 500 at 27-28. RHP Zack Wheeler started out well and was rolling along with six scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the seventh. Wheeler gave up back-to-back hits to SS Addison Russel and pinch-hitter Tommy La Stella before being taken out. His final line was two runs on seven runs with four strikeouts and two walks in 7 innings. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up a sacrifice fly to LF Kyle Schwarber and then an RBI double to 2B Ben Zoborist. Sewald then gave up an RBI single to 3B Kris Bryant. Sewald came back out for the top of the eighth and gave up a three-run homer to Schwarber. He gave up four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. RHP Tim Peterson came to get the last out in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a run on a RBI single by pinch-hitter Ian Happ in the top of the ninth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings. but broke through in the bottom of the third inning after LF Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run homer. This was Nimmo's seventh homer and fifth in his last 11 games. In the bottom of the eighth inning, 1B Adrian Gonzalez hit a two run single.

Injury News
RF Jay Brue left the game in the top of the fifth with lower back discomfort.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Cubs at 7:15 P.M on FOX.
