The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 10-8 last night to snap their three-game losing streak and dropped their record to 31-39. LHP Jason Vargas gave up four straight hits in the bottom of the first after CF Charlie Blackson singled, 3B Nolan Arenado doubled, SS Trevor Story reached base after RF Brandon Nimmo lost the ball in the sun and 1B Ian Desmond hit an RBI single. He was able to get out of the inning after he induced a 3-6-3 double play. Vargas bounced with a scoreless bottom of the second inning, but gave up back-to-back-back homers to Story, Arenado, and Desmond. He was taken out with one out in the bottom of the third inning after he hit catcher Chris Ianetta with a pitch. His final line was seven runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and gave up an RBI double to LF Noel Cuevas and an RBI single to opposing pitcher RHP German Marquez. Robles bounced back and struck out Arenado and got Story to ground-out to end the inning. Robles came out back in the bottom of the fifth inning and gave up a solo homer to RF Carlos Gonzalez. RHP Chris Beck came in next and gave up a leadoff single to Marquez and a walk to Blackmon and then gave up an RBI single to Arenado. Beck bounced back with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Tim Peterson came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.
RF Brandon Nimmo and 2B Asdrubal Cabrera led off the top of the first inning with back-to-back singles. CF Michael Conforto flew out and 3B Todd Frazier drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. In the top of the second inning, 1B Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single by catcher Kevin Plawecki. In the top of the fifth inning, Cabrera hit an RBI single and Nimmo scored on a sacrifice fly by Conforto. Pinch-hitter Jose Bautista hit a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and later scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the ninth inning, pinch-hitter Jose Reyes hit a RBI ground-out and Nimmo also hit an RBI ground-out.
The Mets next game is tonight against the Rockies at 8:40 P.M.
