'Last night, the New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 and dropped their record to 28-38. RHP Seth Lugo gave up an solo homer to 1B Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the first inning, and then walked LF David Peralta and allowed a single to 2B Daniel Descalso, but struck out SS Nick Amed to end the inning. Lugo bounced back with a 1-2-3 bottom of the second inning, In the bottom of the third inning, he gave up singles to RF Jon Jay, Goldschmidt and 3B Jake Lamb and a sacrifice fly to Descalso. Lugo had a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning and in the bottom of the fifth inning, he gave up a two-out single to Peralta and then a two-run homer to Desclaso and was taken out after the inning. His final line was five runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in five innings. RHP Chris Beck made his MLB debut in the bottom of the sixth inning and gave up an RBI single to Jay. Beck came back for the bottom of the seventh inning and retired his first two hitters, but then gave up a single to Peralta and walked Desclaso and Amed to load the bases and was then taken out. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in and stuck out catcher Alex Avila to end the the inning. RHP Anthony Swarsak gave up an RBI single to Goldschmidt in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until 3B Todd Frazier hit a RBI double in the top of the third inning. In the top of the fourth inning, 1B Dominic Smith hit a solo homer. In the top of the ninth inning, 1B Wilmer Flores hit an RBI double. They struggled all night with runners in scoring position and went 2-13 and stranded 21 base runners.
The Mets next game is tonight at 10:10 against the Diamondbacks.
