RHP Jacob deGrom |
The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-1 tonight in 14 innings and dropped their record to 27-29. RHP Jacob deGrom had another incredible outing allowing one run in seven great innings with a career-high 13 strikeouts. Degrom wound up with another no-decision due to lack of run support. This has been a recurring theme for him all season. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless top of the tenth inning. RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless top of the eleventh inning. RHP Tim Peterson threw two scoreless innings in the top of the twelfth and thirteenth innings. LHP Buddy Baumann came on in the top of the 14th inning and gave up four runs. RHP Gerson Bautista came in to relief Baumann and gave up another two runs.
The offense was lifeless all night and had just six hits. They wasted several opportunities with runners in scoring position. CF Michael Conforto drove in the only run with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Mets next game is tomorrow at 1:10 P.M. against the Cubs in the final game of the series.
