The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 8-2 tonight and dropped their record to 32-47. RHP Corey Oswalt started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning. Oswalt started after RHP Jacob deGrom was scratched due to a family issue. Oswalt gave up a lead-off homer to CF Lewis Brinson and then walked LF Derek Dietrich and gave up a single to RF Brian Anderson. He gave up a RBI single to catcher J.T. Realmuto and another RBI single to 2B Starlin Castro. Oswalt gave up a three-run homer to SS J.T. Riddle and was then taken out. RHP Chris Beck came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the third. RHP Tyler Bashlor pitched a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning and then pitched a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. He gave up a RBI single to LF Cameron Maybin in the bottom of the sixth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Smith gave up a sacrifice fly to 1B Miguel Rojas in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings. Catcher Devin Mesoraco drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. 1B Wilmer Flores grounded into a double play with the based loaded to bring home a run in the top of the seventh inning.
The Mets next game is at 4:10 P.M. tomorrow afternoon against the Marlins.
