The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 tonight for their seventh consecutive loss and dropped their record to 31-45. RHP Seth Lugo gave up an unearned run in the top of the first inning after 3B Luis Guillorme made an error on a ground-ball by CF Starling Marte to lead off the game. He later gave up a sac fly to 2B Josh Harrison. In the top of the second inning, Lugo gave up a solo RF Gregory Polanco. In the top of the third inning, Lugo gave up another unearned run after Guillorme made his second error and gave up an RBI single to catcher Elias Diaz. He settled down after that with two scoreless innings. His final line was 5 innings, 4 hits, three runs (one earned), three walks and four strikeouts. RHP Tyler Baslor came in next and made his ML debut in the top of the seventh inning and gave up a two-run homer to 1B Josh Bell. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning, but gave up a run on a sacrifice fly by Diaz in the top of the ninth inning,
The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings until catcher Kevin Plawecki hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one run game, but that was as close as they came to coming back. After Flores's homer, CF Michael Conforto walked, RF Jose Bautista struck out and 2B Asdrubal Cabrera grounded into a double play to end the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Brandon Nimmo pinch-ran for catcher Devin Mesoraco after he walked, SS Jose Reyes singled, but Plawecki struck out and Guillorme struck out to end the inning.The bats went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Mets next game is at 7:10 P.M. tomorrow night against the Pirates.
