Mets vs. Pirates Game 77 Recap

1B Wilmer Flores and 3B Todd Frazier


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 tonight in 10 innings to snap their seven game losing streak and improved their record to 32-45. LHP Steven Matz started out well with four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth inning after he gave up back-to-back RBI singles to 1B Jose Osuna and RF Gregory Polanco. Matz settled down with a scoreless top of the sixth inning, but gave up a solo homer to Polanco in the top of the seventh. His final line was three runs in seven innings with seven strikeouts. RHP Anthony Swarsak gave up a walk to LF Austin Meadows and a bunt single to 2B Josh Harrison and was taken out. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come to get the last two outs in the eighth and pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning. RHP Tim Peterson pitched a scoreless top of the tenth inning and picked up his first win.

1B Wilmer Flores drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. CF Michael Conforto hit the game-tying solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, Flores capped off his big night with a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth,

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at 7:10 P.M. against the Pirates in the final game of the series.
