Last night, the New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 12-2 for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 31-38 on the season. LF Brandon Nimmo led off the game with an inside-the park homer. It was his second consecutive homer and eleventh on the season. In the top of the second inning, CF Michael Conforto started off the inning with a double and then stole third base and later scored on an RBI ground-out by RF Jose Bautista. In the top of the fourth inning, 1B Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a homer. In the top of the seventh inning, Nimmo hit his second homer of the night that was estimated at 449 feet, his longest of the season. Both of his homers came off lefty pitchers. Conforto led off the top of the eighth inning with a double and later scored on a wild pitch by Rockies lefty Jake McGee. Catcher Devin Mesoraco homered in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game. In the top of the ninth inning, the offense broke it ooen with six runs. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera and 3B Todd Frazier led off the inning with singles. Flores grounded out and Conforto was intentionally walked to load the bases. Mesoraco and Bautista both drove in runs with based loaded walks. They both later scored on a two-run double by SS Amed Rosario. Nimmo capped off his awesome night with a two-run single. He finished up 4-6 with two homers and four RBI's and also scored four runs. Nimmo has hit .323 with 10 home runs in the past 25 games.
RHP Jacob deGrom had a 1-2-3 bottom of the first inning, but gave up an RBI double to LF Geraldo Parra in the bottom of the second inning. degrom settled down after that and had another masterful performance. He gave up a one out double to 3B D.J. LeMahieu in the bottom of the third inning, but got CF Charlie Blackmon to fly out and 3B Nolan Arenado to struck out to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, he gave up a single to 1B Ian Desmond, which allowed Parra to score after Bautista made an error. deGrom stayed in for the bottom of the eighth inning and finished up strong with a 1-2-3 inning. His final line was 8 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk and seven strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win of the season and his ERA dropped to 1.51. RHP Paul Sewald closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
The Mets next game is tonight against the Rockies at 8:40 P.M.
