LHP Steven Matz

The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 6-4 today to lose three out of four games in the series and dropped their record to 31-41. LHP Steven Matz struggled in the bottom of the first inning and gave up a lead-off double to 2B D.J. Lemiex, hit CF Charlie Blackmon and gave up a three-run homer to 3B Nolan Arenado. In the bottom of the second inning, Matz gave up two-run double to Arenado. He settled down after that with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth, anf fifth innings. Matz got the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and was then taken out in a double switch. His final line was 5.2 innings, 8 hits, 5 earned runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. RHP Tim Peterson came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth and also pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald came in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up a walk to 1B Ian Desmond and a single to catcher Chris Iannetta. Sewald was taken out and then LHP Jerry Blevins was brought in and gave up a sac fly to Desmond.
The offense got off to a quick start after 3B Todd Frazier homered in the top of the first inning. RF Brandon Nimmo hit an RBI single in the top of the third inning. In the top of the eighth inning, 1B Wilmer Flores drove in a run with a sac fly. 2B Jose Reyes hit a RBI ground-out in the top of the ninth inning.
The Mets return home tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 7:10 P.M.
