The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 tonight in the final game of their three game series and dropped their record to 32-46. RHP Zack Wheeler had an outstanding outing and was dominant from the start. His fastball was lively all night and he had great command of his slider. He looked comfortable on the mound and was attacking hitters up in the zone. His final line was 7 scoreless innings, 5 hits, one walk and 7 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and gave up two hits and a walk and a run on a sacrifice fly by CF Austin Meadows. RHP Tim Peterson came in to retire 2B Josh Harrison and 3B Craig Moran to end the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia came in the top of the ninth inning, but gave up four runs without recording an out and suffered his fourth loss on the season.
RF Jose Bautista drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. 3B Asdrubal Cabrera followed with an RBI single. 1B Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer inthe bottom of the sixth.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Friday night in Miami against the Marlins at 7:10 P.M.
