Mets vs. Yankees Game 96 Recap

LHP Steven Matz


The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 7-6 today and dropped their record to 40-56. LHP Steven Matz struggled after several solid outings and gave up five runs with three strikeouts and one walk in five innings. Matz's ERA is still 3.68 despite allowing five runs today. RHP Tim Peterson came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning, but came back out for the bottom of the seventh inning and gave up a solo homer to RF Aaron Judge. RHP Anthony Swarsak gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

LF Michael Conforto drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the second inning. SS Amed Rosario hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. 3B Jose Bautista scored on a throwing error by Yankees reliever David Robertson in the top of the sixth. 2B Jose Bautista drew a based-loaded walk in the top of the ninth inning. RF Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch in the ninth, which brought in another run. Catcher Devin Mesoraco grounded into a double play with the based loaded to drive in the run and make the score 7-6. The offense left six runners on base and were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is at 8:05 tomorrow night in their final game of the year against the Yankees and will be televised on ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball.
