2B Asdrubal Cabrera

The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-6 tonight for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 43-57. The offense jumped on the board early in the top of the first inning after LF Michael Conforto doubled and 1B Wilmer Flores drove him in with a two-run homer. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera hit a RBI double in the top of the second inning. Catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. Cabrera added a two-run homer in the fourth. Mesraco reached on a throwing error, which brought home a run in the fourth. SS Amed Rosario drove in a run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Cabrera hit an RBI ground-out in the seventh. Rosario later scored on a wild pitch in the inning. CF Matt den Dekker had his first RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning. Flores also hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth.
LHP Steven Matz gave up four runs on three hits in six innings. He allowed two walks and had a career-high nine strikeouts. It was the most strikeouts Matz has had in a game since August 9, 2016. He picked up his fifth win. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. :LHP Jerry Blevins followed and pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Drew Smith gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to close it out and record the last three outs.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Pirates at 7:05 P.M.
