Mets vs. Rays Game 86 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Tampa Bays Rays 9-0 today and dropped their record to 35-51. RHP Chris Flexen got into immediate trouble and gave up a three-run homer to 1B C.J. Cron in the top of the first inning. Flexen had a scoreless top of the second inning, but gave up two more runs in the top of the third inning on a RBI double by 2B Daniel Robertson and an RBI single by CF Mallex Smith. He was taken out after the inning. His final line was five runs, five hits, three walks and two strikeouts in three innings. RHP Chris Beck came in next and gave up two runs in three innings. RHP Tyler Bashlor followed and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald gave up two runs in the top of the eighth inning on a solo homer to LF Joey Wendle and a RBI ground-out to Robertson. RHP Tim Peterson pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense was held hitless by Rays starter Nathan Eovaldi for the first six innings until CF Brandon Nimmo singled in the bottom of the seventh inning. The only other baserunners besides Nimmo were a walk by CF Michael Conforto in the bottom of the eighth inning and a single by catcher Devin Mesoraco in the bottom of the ninth inning and a walk by Nimmo in the ninth.

The Mets next games are tomorrow in a double-header against the Philadelphia Phillies. The first game starts at 4:10 P.M.
