Mets vs. Padres Game 98 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler


The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 6-3 tonight and improved their record to 41-57. In the bottom of the first inning, SS Amed Rosario led off with a walk, 1B Wilmer Flores singled and LF Michael Conforto hit an infield hit. Catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a three-run double to clear the bases. Conforto later hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera added a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. 3B Jeff McNeil pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth inning and picked up his first career hit with a single up the middle.

RHP Zack Wheeler started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the the top of the third inning. Wheeler gave up singles to catcher Austin Hedges and CF Manuel Margot and walked 2B Carlos Asuaje to load the bases. He gave up a two-run single to LF Wil Myers, but got out of the inning after Asuaje was thrown out trying to advance to third. Wheeler settled down after that with four scoreless innings and retired the last 12 hitters in a row. His final line was two runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in seven innings. He picked up his fourth win on the season. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning and gave up a RBI double to Myers in the top of the ninth inning, but still managed to close it out and struck out 1B Eric Hosmer and RF Hunter Renfroe to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at 12:10 P.M against the Padres in the final game of the series.
