Mets vs. Padres Game 99 Recap

RHP Corey Oswalt


The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 6-4 this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 42-57. This is the Mets first series win since May 18-20th when they swept the Arizona Diamondbacks. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but came to life in the bottom of the fifth inning. Catcher Kevin Plawecki drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. Pinch-hitter Phillip Evans hit an RBI single to tie the game. SS Amed Rosario drove in Evans and 3B Jose Reyes on a two-run single. RF Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer in the following inning in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Corey Oswalt had a scoreless top of the first inning, but gave up a run on a double play in the top of the second inning. Oswalt threw scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth innings, but gave up a homer to catcher Austin Hedges in the top of the fifth inning. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. He picked up his first win. RHP Tim Peterson came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning, but gave up a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning and left with runners on first and third on one out. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and was able to escape out of the jam. RHP Anthony Swarsak closed it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings and picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:05 P.M.
