The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 8-6 tonight and dropped their record to 33-49. RHP Zack Wheeler got off to a nice start with four scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wheeler gave up a lead-off walk to catcher Russel Martin and hit 2B Devon Travis with 2 outs. He gave up a RBI double to RF Curtis Granderson, but struck out LF Teosocar Hernandez to end the inning. Wheeler bounced back with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth inning and stuck out Martin to begin the bottom of the seventh inning, but was taken out after he gave up a single and RF Jose Bautista made a two-base error. His final line was two runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. RHP Anthony Swarsak came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and a wild-pitch to cut the lead to 6-3 and was taken out after he walked Hernandez. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up a three-run game-tying homer to 3B Yangervis Solarte. RHP Tim Peterson gave up a go-ahead two-run homer to Guirriel in the bottom of the eighth inning.
SS Asdrubal Cabrera got the offense off to a fast start with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. DH Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning. LF Michael Conforto added a RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Blue Jays at 7:07 P.M in the final game of the series.
