Mets vs. Padres Game 97 Recap

RHP Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-2 tonight and dropped their record to 40-57. RHP Jacob deGrom dominated through the four innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth inning after RF Jose Bautista misplayed a flyball by 2B Christian Villanueva. Villanueva then stole second and SS Freddie Galvis drove in an RBI single to tie the game. deGrom then gave up an RBI triple to the next batter CF Manuel Margot, but was able to escape out of the inning with no further trouble. In the top of the sixth inning, he gave up a lead-off double to LF Wil Myers and then 1B Eric Hosmer reached on an error by SS Amed Rosario, which brought home another run. He settled down after that and got the last two outs in the sixth and finished up strong with scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. His final line was 8 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs ( 2 earned), 2 walks and 10 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in the top of the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning.

1B Wilmer Flores drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, 3B Jose Reyes hit a dribbler down the third base to bring him a run. Other than that, the offense was quiet for most of the night and left a total of 17 runners on base.

The Mets next game is at 7:10 P.M. tomorrow night against the Padres.
