Mets vs. Nationals Game 92 Recap

RHP Noah Syndergarrd

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 4-2 tonight and improved their record to 38-54. RHP Noah Syndergarrd made his first start tonight after he was put on the disabled list with a strained right index finger on May 26. Syndergarrd started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the third. He gave up a lead-off triple to Nationals starter RHP Tanner Roark and then allowed a RBI double to SS Wilmer Dilfo, but then induced a ground-out by RF Adam Eaton, a pop-out to 2B Anthony Rendon and struck out RF Bryce Harper to end the inning. He finished up with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. His final line was one run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up a solo homer to 1B Matt Adams in the top of the eighth inning, but came back out in the top of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his fourth save of the season.

RF Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and 2B Asdrubal Cabrera also singled. 3B Jose Bautista drove Nimmo home with an RBI single. Two batters later, 1B Wilmer Flores hit an RBI single. Catcher Devin Mesoraco followed with an RBI single. In the bottom of the second inning, Syndergarrd helped himself out with an RBI single.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals at 4:10 P.M.
