The New York Mets defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 tonight and improved their record to 34-49. In the top of the third inning, catcher Kevin Plawecki drew a one-out walk, SS Jose Reyes grounded out and CF Brandon Nimmo drove in the tying run with an RBI single. 1B Wilmer Flores singled to lead-off the top of the fifth inning and 3B Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer. Plawecki doubled a batter later and then Reyes walked, Nimmo drew a walk and then RF Jose Bautista hit a RBI single. 2B Asdrubal Cabrera followed with an RBI single and LF Michael Conforto hit an RBI single as well. After that, the offense was quiet for the rest of the game and didn't score any more runs.
RHP Corey Oswalt begin with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first inning, but gave up a run on a solo homer by DH Kendrys Morales. Oswalt had another scoreless inning in the bottom of the third inning, but gave up an RBI single to 2B Lourdes Guirrel Jr in the bottom of the fourth inning and was then taken out. His final line was two runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in four innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and had a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning, but gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lugo stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and had a scoreless inning. His final line was one run in three innings. He picked up his third win. LHP Jerry Blevins followed got the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman picked up the last out in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia retired the Blue Jays in order in the bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 16th save.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Friday night at home against the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 P.M.
