The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in 10 innings this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 36-51. RHP Zack Wheeler gave up a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single to RF Nick Williams. Wheeler bounced back with a scoreless top of the second inning, but gave up another run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single to LF Rhys Hoskins. He gave up another run in the top of the fifth inning and was taken out with 2 outsin the inning. His final line was 4.2 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw 2.2 scoreless innings. RHP Robert Gsellman had to come in the top of the eighth inning with one out and the bases loaded and was able to get out of the jam. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning. RHP Tim Peterson pitched a scoreless top of the tenth inning and picked up the win.
2B Asdrubal Cabrera drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. RF Jose Bautista hit a RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Cabrera drove in another run with an RBI double in the second. 3B Wilmer Flores hit a walk-off homer to lead off the bottom of the tenth inning. Flores is now the all-time walk-off RBI leader in Mets history with 10.
The Mets next game is tonight at 8:05 in second game of doubleheader.
