The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 tonight and dropped their record to 36-53. RHP Drew Gagnon made his MLB debut and started out well with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, In the top of the second inning, Gagnon got into a jam after he gave up singles to RF Nick Williams and hit catcher Jorge Alfaro with two outs. He then allowed a three-run homer to 3B Maikel Franco. In the top of the third inning, he gave up back-to-back singles to LF Rhys Hoskins and CF Odubel Herrera and then walked 1B Carlos Santana to load the bases. Gagnon then allowed a two-run single to Williams to make it 5-0, which broke the game open. In the top of the fourth, he had a scoreless inning, but gave up a homer to Herrera in the top of the fifth and was taken out with 2 outs. His final line was 4.2 innings. 7 hits, 6 runs, RHP Tyler Bashlor came in next with two outs in the fifth and allowed one run in 2 1/3 innings. LHP P.J. Conlon pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
The offense struggled against Phillies starter Enyel De Los Santos, who also made his MLB debut. They were held scoreless for the first three innings. SS Amed Rosario tripled to lead off the bottom of the third inning and then Gagnon drove him in with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the seventh inning, 3B Jose Reyes led off the inning with a walk and then Rosario hit his second triple of the night to drive in Reyes. Pinch-hitter Michael Conforto drove in Rosario with an RBI ground-out.
Injury News
2B Asdrubal Cabrera left the game in the bottom of the seventh inning after a re-aggravation of his hyperextended elbow.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Phillies at 7:10 P.M.
