Mets vs. Nationals Game 93 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 7-4 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 39-54. SS Amed Rosario  RHP Zack Wheeler followed with a sacrifice fly and RF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI ground-out. In the bottom of the fifth inning, 2B Asdrubal Cabrera lead-off with a walk and RF Jose Bautista also walked. LF Michael Coforto broke the game open with a three-run homer.  Three battters later, 3B Jose Reyes hit an RBI single.

RHP Zack Wheeler had a strong outing allowing four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings. Wheeler was dominant for the first six innings and was hurt by his defense after Reyes failed to turn a double play in the seventh, which cost him two runs. He has looked better every start and his fastball has had a lot of life to it and his curveball has been much sharper. Wheeler picked up his third win. RHP Anthony Swarsak came in next and got the last out in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning and picked up his 17th save.

The Mets have their last game before the All-Star break against the Nationals tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 P.M.
