Mets vs. Marlins Game 81 Recap

LHP Steven Matz
The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 this afternoon to avoid the three-game series sweep and improved their record to 33-48. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, until 2B Asdrubal Cabrera drove home the first two runs with a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. LHP Steven Matz helped his own cause with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. 3B Todd Frazier drove in a run with an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning. Frazier later came around to score on an error by Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto.

LHP Steven Matz worked around a based loaded jam in the bottom of the second inning and was able to get out of it with no score runs. He gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth after he misplayed a bunt by Marlins starter RHP Dan Straily, which led to a run. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 run (0 earned), 2 walks and six strikeouts. Matz picked up his fourth win of the season. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. RHP Tim Peterson gave up a solo homer to LF Cameron Maybin in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 15th save.

The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday in an inter-league match-up at the Toronto Blue Jays 7:07 P.M.
