LHP Steven Matz

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 25-4 tonight and dropped their record to 44-60. LHP Steven Matz had a difficult outing and wasn't able to make it out of the first inning. Matz gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and recorded two outs. RHP Jacob Rhyme had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the first inning. Rhyme stayed in for the bottom of the second inning and gave up three runs. He gave up three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. RHP Tim Peterson also gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. RHP Tyler Bashlor gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the fifth and stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and pitched a scoreless inning. RHP Drew Smith pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. Jose Reyes made his debut on the mound in the bottom of the eighth and gave up six runs.
2B Jeff McNeil drove in the run of the game with a solo homer, the first of his career in the top of the seventh. McNeil also drove in another run after he grounded into a fielder's choice. CF Austin Jackso added a two-run homer.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals at 12:10 P.M.
