The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees 6-4 this afternoon in the first game of the doubleheader and improved their record to 14-16. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the top of the fifth after LF Dom Smith scored on a wild pitch by Yankees starter LHP Jordan Montgomery.  In the top of the sixth, 3B J.D. Davis and RF Michael Conforto singled and then 1B Pete Alonso broke out of his slump with a three-run homer to tie the game. Three batters later, Smith hit a solo homer. CF Jake Marisnik followed with a solo homer, his first of the year.

RHP Michael Wacha struggled in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a RBI double to RF Clint Frazier and based loaded walk to catcher Gary Sanchez. Wacha gave up a two-run homer to Frazier in the bottom of the second. He threw a scoreless bottom of the third and came out after the inning. His final line was 3 innings, four runs, six hits and one walk. RHP Walker Lockett came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Lockett picked up his first win. RHP Dellin Betances followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a dominating bottom of the seventh inning striking out the side and picked up his second save of the year.

The Mets have another game later tonight against the Yankees at 8:40 p.m.
