Mets 3B J.D. Davis (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com)

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 8-4 tonight and improved their record to 6-9. RF Michael Conforto drove in the first two runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the third inning. 3B J.D. Davis drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly. Davis later broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer.

LHP David Peterson made his third career start and got off to a tough start after he gave up a RBI single to 3B Brian Anderson in the top of the first inning. Peterson settled down nicely after that even though he didn't have his best command and relied mostly on his slider and change-up allowing  only one more run in the top of the fifth inning on a solo homer by DH Logan Forsythe. He showed that he can get hitters out and not get rattled. His final line was 5 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Peterson picked up the second win of his career. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and was taken out with two outs in the top of the sixth inning after he walked three batters which loaded the bases. RHP Drew Smith came in next and gave up a two-run single to CF Monte Harrison and both runs were charged to Familia. Smith was able to get out of the inning after he struck out SS Jonathan Villar. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and made his first appearance since he was activated from the IL and had a nice inning with two strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Justin Wilson closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Marlins at 1:10 p.m.
