Mets vs. Nationals Game 12 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-3 tonight and dropped their record to 4-8. LHP Steven Matz struggled allowing five runs on seven hits in 3 innings. Matz gave up no walks and had three strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and threw 1.2 scoreless innings. RHP Jeurys Famila followed with 1.1 scoreless innings. RHP Dellin Betances threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning with two strikeouts.

The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth inning when RF Michael Conforto hit a two-run homer. 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single in the top of the fifth. They had several opportunities to score, but weren't able to capitalize with men on base. They were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Nationals at 6:05 p.m.
