The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 tonight and dropped their record to 9-12. RHP Walker Lockett got the start in place of RHP Jacob deGrom since deGrom was scratched due to a stiff neck. Lockett started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first inning, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by 3B Alec Bohm and CF Roman Quinn. He had scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but it came apart for him in the bottom of the fifth inning after he gave up a double to 1B Rhys Hoskins, walked RF Bryce Harper and gave up a three-run homer to catcher J.T. Realmuto. Lockett stayed in for another inning after that and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth and was taken out after that. His final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Dellin Betances came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Justin Wilson followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, RHP Seth Lugo came on and gave up singles to Quinn and DH Andrew McCutchen to start the innung, then struck out Hoskins, but gave up a walk-off single to Harper.

In the top of the first inning, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and RF Michael Conforto singled to advanced Nimmo to third base. LF Dom Smith drove in Nimmo with an RBI ground-out. In the top of the second inning, 3B Andres Giminez singled with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Realmuto. 3B Luis Guillorme came through with an RBI single. In the top of the third inning, Smith and DH Robinson Cano hit back-to-back solo homer. After that the bats went quiet and several opportunities with runners on base including the top of the eighth inning, when Billy Hamilton pinch ran for Guilliorme after singled, then stole second, but was thrown out at third base after he made a reckless baserunning error when the ball rolled away from Phillies 2B Jean Segura.  They left 10 runners on base and went 2-16 with runners in scoring position. In the top of the ninth inning, Nimmo led off with a single and then Conforto walked, but 1B Pete Alonso and Smith struck out. Cano was able to deliver a single with two outs to score Nimmo and tie the game, but catcher Wilson Ramos grounded out to end the threat.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Phillies at 6:05 p.m.
