RHP Corey Oswalt made the start on the fly after LHP David Peterson was placed on the IL today with shoulder fatique. Oswalt started out well with three scoreless innings and mixed in all his pitches including his fastball and change-up. He ran into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth inning after he gave up a one-out double to LF Matt Joyce and then another double to 1B Jesus Aguilar to bring in a run. Brian Anderson followed with another RBI single, but Oswalt didn't allow any more runs that inning. He started the bottom of the fifth, but was taken out with one out and a runner on second. His final line was 4.1 innings, five hits, two runs, four strikeouts and no walks. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and retired the next two batters he faced to get out of the inning and came back out for the bottom of the sixth and struck out Aguilar and got DH Corey Dickerson to ground out and was taken out. Wilson picked up his first win of the season. RHP Jared Hughes got pinch hitter to line out to end the inning and Hughes stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Dellin Betances followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up a double to catcher Francisco Cervilli and a single to Alvarez. Diaz then made a throwing error on a ground-ball back to the mound by Magnerius Sierra and then threw the ball into the stands. He came back to struck out CF Monte Harrison, SS Jonathan Villar, and Joyce to end the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
