The New York Mets acquired RHP Ariel Jurado from Texas Rangers today in exchange for cash considerations and a player to be named later to the Rangers. Juriel was designated for assignment by the Rangers on July 31st to make room for former Yankees first baseman Greg Bird. He made 44 appearances (26 starts) for the Rangers dating back to 2018 and had pitched to a 5.85 ERA. Juriel was ranked as the 72th best prospect in baseball according to Baseball Prospectus in 2017. He has a repertoire of five pitches, but mostly relies on his sinker.   Juriel was optioned to the team's alternative training site in Brooklyn. To make room for Juriel on the roster, outfielder Ryan Cordell was DFA'd since he was no longer needed after the team acquired centerfielder Billy Hamilton for speed and defense off the bench from a fifth outfielder.
