Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com)

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 5-3 this afternoon for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 15-20. RHP Jacob deGrom started out strong with five scoreless innings, but it all fell apart in the top of the sixth. DeGrom gave up a lead-off homer to DH Garrett Cooper and then 1B Pete Alonso made an error which allowed RF Matt Joyce to reach first. He then gave up a RBI double to 1B Lewin Diaz which scored Joyce and then another RBI double to SS Miguel Rojas which scored Diaz. Catcher Jorge Alfaro followed with another RBI double to bring in another run and then deGrom was finally able to get out of the inning and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 4 runs, (1 earned), 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. RHP Hunter Strickland came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Brad Brach followed and gave up a solo homer to 3B Brian Anderson. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third inning after SS Amed Rosario and RF Brandon Nimmo walked to start the inning and then 2B Jeff McNeil drove in Rosario with an RBI double. LF Dominic Smith followed with a sac fly to bring in Nimmo. DH Robinson Cano hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Baltimore Orioles at 7:35 p.m.
