New York Mets RHP Marcus Stroman announced today he is opting out of the remainder of the 2020 season. Stroman is currently on the injured list (IL) while he is recovering from a calf tear and said that recent COVID-19 outbreaks in the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals were important factors in his decision to opt out. He will be a free agent after this season. Stroman had a 3.77 ERA in his 11 starts as a Met after he was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 28th. Now that he has opted out and RHP Michael Wacha recently went on the IL, it leaves a gaping hole in the Mets rotation. LHP David Peterson will take on a larger role and someone else will be moved to the rotation to fill Stroman's spot and it remains to be seen who that will be.
