Mets 2B Robinson Cano (Credits to Newday.com)

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 11-4 tonight and improved their record to 10-14. In the top of the second inning, RF Michael Conforto led off with a double and then 2B Robinson Cano singled to advance Conforto to second and then 1B Pete Alonso walked to load the bases. LF Dom Smith then drove in the first two runs with a two-run double. Two batters later, SS Amed Rosario drove in Smith with an RBI double. In the top of third inning, 3B J.D. Davis led off and was hit by a pitch and after Conforto struck out, Cano delivered a two-run homer. After a scoreless top of the fourth inning, 1B Pete Alonso led off in the top of the fifth and broke out of his slump with a solo homer. In the top of the sixth, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple and then DH Jeff McNeil drove in Nimmo with a sacrifice fly. Davis followed with a walk and two batters later, Cano broke the game open with a three-run homer, his second homer of the night. Alonso followed with his second homer of the night and fifth overall on the season. In the top of the ninth, Rosario singled to start off the inning and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. McNeil singled to advance Rosario to third base and Davis walked to load the bases. CF Billy Hamilton drove in a run on a sacrifice fly against Marlins infielder Logan Forsthye.
RHP Robert Gsellman made his second start of the season and gave up a RBI double to LF Matt Joyce in the bottom of the first inning. Gsellman got two outs in the bottom of the second, but was unable to finish the inning and gave up more baserunners and was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the second. LHP Chasen Shrieve had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the second and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Shrieve threw 2.1 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. He picked up his first win. RHP Jeurys Familia gave up a solo homer to SS Jonathan Villar in the bottom of the fifth. RHP Brad Brach threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Franklin Kilome came in next and worked his way out of trouble with multiple walks in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings. Kilome gave up a walk, three singles and a double in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to get out of it and pick up a three inning save with four strikeouts.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
