Mets Trade Pitching Prospect Kevin Smith for Reliever Miguel Castro

The New York Mets traded pitching prospect RHP Kevin Smith to the Baltimore Orioles today for Orioles reliever RHP Miguel Castro. Castro is a hard thrower and features a sinker at 97.5 mph. He has a career ERA of 4.30 and struck out 220 hitters in 274 innings. Castro has a 4.02 ERA this year with 24 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings for a career high of 13.8 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Smith was the Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year last year and had a 3.15 ERA in 23 starts. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft and was the no 12 ranked prospect in the Mets organization.
