The New York Mets lost to the New York Yankees 2-1 this afternoon and dropped their record to 15-17.  RHP Robert Gsellman made his second start of the season and got into trouble in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up a solo homer to Yankees 1B Luke Volt. Gsellman settled down after that with a scoreless bottom of the second inning and worked out around a triple with two outs by 3B D.J. LeMahieu in the bottom of the third. He gave up a single to RF Mike Tauchman and Taufman later reached third after Gsellman made a throwing error on a pick-off attempt at first base. DH Clint Frazier hit a ground-ball to 3B J.D. Davis who made a strong throw to throw Tauchman out at home for the second out in the inning. LF Brett Gardner then hit a line drive in the centerfield gap, but CF Billy Hamilton made a strong relay throw to SS Amed Rosario who then threw the ball home and catcher Wilson Ramos helped apply the tag to get Frazier out at home to end the inning. Gsellman came out after the inning and his final line was 4 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Steven Matz came in next for his first relief appearance since August 15th and had an effective 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning with 2 strikeouts. RHP Jared Hughes came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth. RHP Brad Brach gave up back-to-back walks to begin the bottom of the seventh and then walked pinch-hitter Mike Ford to load the bases. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come in and was able to escape out of the based loaded jam without allowing any runs. LHP Justin Wilson threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Dellin Betances came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up a lead-off walk to Frazier and later a single to SS Jordy Mercer. Betances then gave up a walk-off wild pitch which scored Frazier to end the game.

The offense struggled against Yankees starter LHP J.A. Happ and were shutout for the first 7.1 innings and had three hits. Catcher Wilson Ramos homered off reliever RHP Adam Otttavano after he just came in to relief Happ to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning, but they weren't able to score any more runs after that.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Yankees at 1:05 p.m. in the first game of their doubleheader.
