Mets vs. Braves Game 11 Recap

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com)

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2 tonight to snap their five-game losing streak and improved their record to 4-7. In the top of the third inning, the bats finally woke up after SS Amed Rosario hit a single and then reached third after Braves left fielder Marcell Ozuna made an error. CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk and then RF Michael Conforto came through with an RBI single. 1B Pete Alonso then walked to load the bases and 2B Robinson Cano hit a two-run single. DH J.D. Davis grounded into a fielder's choice, LF Dom Smith walked and then catcher Wilson Ramos capped off the inning with an RBI single. In the top of the fourth inning, Conforto singled with one out, Alonso walked and then 2B Robinson Cano hit a RBI single.  In the top of the fifth inning, Dom Smith led off with a walk and Ramos broke the game open with a two-run homer.

RHP Jacob deGrom didn't have his best stuff, but still pitched excellent allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in six innings. deGrom picked up his first win on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.21. He mixed it all his pitches and his fastball was dialed up to 100 mph. His slider and change-up were effective particularly against the Braves righty hitters Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies.  Hopefully he can get run support and pick up some wins in the last two months of the season.
RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and left with the based loaded.
LHP Justin Wilson had to come in and retired 1B Freddie Freeman on a ground-out for the biggest out of the inning.
RHP Jared Hughes came in the bottom of the eighth inning for his Met debut and was effective throwing two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings to close the game out. Hughes gave up no hits, allowed two walks and struck out three hitters. He mixed in his slider and sinker down in the zone which kept the hitters off-balanced.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Washington Nationals at 7:00 p.m.
