The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 today to win their fifth consecutive game and improve their record to 74-66. They are a 1/2 game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot in the National League. The Mets offense got off to a fast start after 3B Jose Reyes led off with a homer on the first pitch of the game. He also scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning. RF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer, his 25th of the season. Wilmer Flores hit a pinch hit two run homer. LF Yoenis Cespedes added an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning.
RHP Noah Syndergarrd allowed five scoreless innings. Syndergarrd had a high pitch count, which caused him to go only five innings. He allowed ten baserunners which made his outing a lot shorter than he hoped. He gave up 6 hits and 4 walks. He had 7 strikeouts. He picked his thirteenth win of the season. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. LHP Jerry Blevins got the last out in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Gabriel Ynoa allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Addison Reed came in next and allowed three runs, but all runs were charged to Ynoa. Reed got the last three outs in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his 47th save.
