The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 tonight to win their second consecutive game and improve their record to 85-74. The Mets magic number to clinch the Wild Card is now two with the Cardinals loss tonight. 1B James Loney hit a 2 run homer. 3B Jose Reyes hit an RBI double. RF Jay Bruce hit a 2 run homer, his 2nd in the last two days.
RHP Seth Lugo allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up 2 walks and had three strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and recorded the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Jeurs Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his 50th save.
