The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-1 tonight to drop their record to 76-68. They remain a 1/2 game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot. RHP Rafael Montero had a rough outing allowing six runs in only 1 2/3 innings. He gave four walks. He had two strikeouts. After Montero was taken out, RHP Gabriel Ynoa came in and allowed two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. LHP Sean Gilmartin came in next and pitched two scoreless innings RHP Logan Verrett pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh. Verrett and LHP Josh Edgin combined to pitch a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
The only run the Mets offense scored on was on a sacrifice fly by LF Yoenis Cespedes in the top of the first inning.
