The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 tonight to win their fourth consecutive game and improve their record to 73-66. They are now a 1/2 game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild spot in the National League. The Mets offense had a huge night with five home runs. CF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer. 3B Jose Reyes hit a solo homer. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a 2 run homer. Aledandro De Aza hit a pinch hit homer.
RHP Rafael Montero only went 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on three hits. He gave up 4 walks and had four strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision. LHP Josh Edgin and RHP Gabriel Ynoa got the last outs in the bottom of the fifth. LHP Josh Smoker pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. He picked up his second win. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless seventh. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his 46th save.
