The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies tonight 5-1 to improve their record to 86-74. Their magic number to clinch a wild card berth is now down to one. They would clinch a wild card berth with a St. Louis Cardinals loss. RF Jay Bruce had 3 RBI's with a 2 RBI singles and a solo homer. LF Yoenis Cespedes grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. 2B TJ Rivera hit a RBI single.
RHP Robert Gsellman pitched 6 outstanding innings allowing only 1 run on 7 hits, He gave up 1 walk and had 7 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
