The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-4 tonight to lose their second consecutive game and drop their record to 80-71. They are now a 1/2 game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the first wild card spot. RHP Robert Gsellman took the loss after he allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two walks and had six strikeouts. After Gsellman was taken out, RHP Fernando Salas allowed a run in the top of the sixth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins allowed two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Mets offense managed to have only one run on an RBI double by SS Asdrubal Cabrera until the bottom of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, CF Curtis Granderson hit an RBI double. TJ Rivera hit a sacrifice fly. Eric Campbell hit a pinch hit RBI single. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud grounded out to end the threat in the bottom of the eighth.
