The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 4-1 to drop their record to 69-66. They remain 2.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second National League wild card spot. RHP Noah Syndergaard took the loss after he allowed two runs in seven innings on three hits. He allowed one walks and had four strikeouts. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins allowed two runs in the top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense struggled night and managed only three hits. The only run they were able to score was on a solo homer by SS Asdrubal Cabrera.
