The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 3-1 tonight to snap their one game losing steak and improve their record to 70-66. They are now one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild spot in the National League. RF Curtis Granderson hit a 2 run single to give the Mets in the bottom of the third inning. 1B James Loney added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
RHP Robert Gsellman pitched a terrific game and allowed only run on six hits in six innings. He gave up three walks and had four strikeouts. He picked up his first career win as a starter and 2nd career win. Gsellman's first Major League win came as a relief pitcher against the St. Louis Cardinals. RHP Jim Henderson came in next and picked up one out in the top of the seventh inning. LHP Josh Smoker followed and got the last two outs in the seventh. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 45th save.
