Mets vs. Phillies Game 156 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 17-0 today to take three out of four games in the series and improve their record 83-73. They are now a 1/2 ahead of the San Francisco Giants for the first National League wild card spot.

The Mets offense exploded for a season high 17 runs. This was the most lopsided win in team history. 1B James Loney drove in the first run on a groundout which resulted in a double play with the bases loaded. RF Jay Bruce scored on a wild pitch. CF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer, his thirtieth of the season. 2B TJ Rivera hit an RBI single. Catcher Rene Rivera was hit by a pitch with the based loaded which brought home a run. RF Michael Conforto hit a 2 run double. 3B Eric Campbell hit a 2 run single. 3B Jose Reyes had 4 RBI's with 2 based loaded walks and 2 RBI doubles. SS Asdrubal Cabrera also had 4 RBI's with a grand slam.

RHP Robert Gsellman pitched 7 outstanding scoreless innings. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks. He had 8 strikeouts. He picked up his third win. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless eighth. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless ninth.
