The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies tonight 5-1 to improve their record to 86-74. Their magic number to clinch a wild card berth is now down to one. They would clinch a wild card berth with a St. Louis Cardinals loss. RF Jay Bruce had 3 RBI's with a 2 RBI singles and a solo homer. LF Yoenis Cespedes grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. 2B TJ Rivera hit a RBI single.

RHP Robert Gsellman pitched 6 outstanding innings allowing only 1 run on 7 hits, He gave up 1 walk and had 7 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win. The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 17-0 today to take three out of four games in the series and improve their record 83-73. They are now a 1/2 ahead of the San Francisco Giants for the first National League wild card spot.

The Mets offense exploded for a season high 17 runs. This was the most lopsided win in team history. 1B James Loney drove in the first run on a groundout which resulted in a double play with the bases loaded. RF Jay Bruce scored on a wild pitch. CF Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer, his thirtieth of the season. 2B TJ Rivera hit an RBI single. Catcher Rene Rivera was hit by a pitch with the based loaded which brought home a run. RF Michael Conforto hit a 2 run double. 3B Eric Campbell hit a 2 run single. 3B Jose Reyes had 4 RBI's with 2 based loaded walks and 2 RBI doubles. SS Asdrubal Cabrera also had 4 RBI's with a grand slam.

RHP Robert Gsellman pitched 7 outstanding scoreless innings. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks. He had 8 strikeouts. He picked up his third win. RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless eighth. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Mets offense exploded for 10 runs. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI double. CF Curtis Granderson hit a RBI single. 2B Kelly Johnson hit a 2 run single. RF Michael Conforto hit a 3 run homer. CF Juan Lagares reached on an error which brought home a run. Eric Campbell hit a pinch hit RBI single. T.J. Rivera added a sacrifice fly.

RHP Gabriel Ynoa started the game and lasted only 2 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits. He gave up one walk and one strikeout. RHP Logan Verrett came in next and allowed one run on two hits in two innings. He had two walks and two strikeouts. LHP Hosh Smoker followed and allowed 2 runs on one hit in the top of the fifth. He had one walk and two strikeouts. He picked up his third win of the season. RHP Erik Goedell appeared next and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Addison Reed allowed three runs in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. LHP Josh Edgin got the last out in the top of the 9th. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and pitched 1 1/3 innings. He allowed 2 runs in the top of the eleventh inning. RHP Jim Henderson recorded the last out in the top of the eleventh inning and picked up his first win of the season.

The Mets offense had two clutch home runs by SS Asdrubal Cabrera and 3B Jose Reyes. Cabrera hit a 3 run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eleventh inning. Reyes hit a 2 run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes had 2 RBI's with a RBI single and RBI double. RF Curtis Granderson added a two run homer.

Mets vs. Braves Game 152 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight to drop their record to 80-72 and lose their third consecutive game. They remain tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot. RHP Bartolo Colon pitched a terrific game and allowed 2 runs on on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up six strikeouts and had no walks. He wound up with a no-decision. After Colon was taken out, RHP Addison Reed came in and got the last out in the top of the seventh. Reed came back out in the top of the eighth and allowed a run. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and gave up a single to 1B Freddie Freeman. RHP Jeurys Familia followed and allowed the game-winning run to blow his fifth save and record his fifth loss.

The Mets offense got off to a hot start on a 2 run homer by SS Asdrubal Cabrera in the first inning, but struggled the rest of game. The only other run they were able to score was on a solo homer by catcher Rene Rivera.

The Mets offense managed to have only one run on an RBI double by SS Asdrubal Cabrera until the bottom of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, CF Curtis Granderson hit an RBI double. TJ Rivera hit a sacrifice fly. Eric Campbell hit a pinch hit RBI single. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud grounded out to end the threat in the bottom of the eighth.

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 1-0 to lose two out of three games in the series and drop their record to 77-69. They remain a 1/2 ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2nd wild card spot and a 1/2 game behind the San Francisco Giants for the first wild card spot since both the Gianst and Cardinals lost today. The Mets offense struggled all game and managed only three hits. They had the based loaded and one out in the top of the first, but were unable to score. RF Jay Bruce struck out with one out with the based loaded and 2B TJ Rivera flew out to end the inning. The Mets didn't have another hit until the top of the ninth inning, but were unable to tie the game.

RHP Robert Gsellman pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed only 5 hits and one walk. He had 4 strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision. LHP Josh Smoker came in and struck out RF Bryce Harper to end the inning. RHP Fernando Salas allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo homer by catcher Wilson Ramos. Mets vs. Nationals Game 144 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 8-1 tonight to drop their record to 76-68. They remain a 1/2 game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot. RHP Rafael Montero had a rough outing allowing six runs in only 1 2/3 innings. He gave four walks. He had two strikeouts. After Montero was taken out, RHP Gabriel Ynoa came in and allowed two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. LHP Sean Gilmartin came in next and pitched two scoreless innings RHP Logan Verrett pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh. Verrett and LHP Josh Edgin combined to pitch a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The only run the Mets offense scored on was on a sacrifice fly by LF Yoenis Cespedes in the top of the first inning.

Cespedes hit a grand slam and also hit a sacrifice fly. 1B James Loney had 2 RBI's with a homer and double. 2B Kelly Johnson hit an RBI single. CF Aledandro De Aza hit an RBI single. RHP Seth Lugo added a sacrifice lugo.

Granderson hit a 2 run homer and RBI single to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit a sacrifice fly. Kelly Johnson hit a pinch hit double to give the Mets the lead in the top of the eighth. Michael Conforto was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth to score another run and give the Mets a 6-4 lead.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd allowed five scoreless innings.  Syndergarrd had a high pitch count, which caused him to go only five innings. He allowed ten baserunners which made his outing a lot shorter than he hoped. He gave up 6 hits and 4 walks. He had 7 strikeouts. He picked his thirteenth win of the season. RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. LHP Jerry Blevins got the last out in the bottom of the seventh inning. He picked up his first career win as a starter and 2nd career win. Gsellman's first Major League win came as a relief pitcher against the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up four walks and had three strikeouts. Degrom had to come out after five innings due to an undisclosed injury. LHP Josh Smoker came in after deGrom came out and gave up a 3 run homer to CF Christian Yelich.

Mets Acquire RHP Fernando Salas

The New York Mets have acquired Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RHP Fernando Salas in exchange for minor league pitcher RHP Erik Manoah. Salas has posted a record of 3-6 this year with a 4.47 ERA and 7.2 K/9 in 58 games for the Angels this year and has pitched a lot better in the 2nd 1/2 of the season. He will help the Mets have more depth out of the bullpen and give them another option to use in the seventh inning along with Hansel Robles.
The Mets are giving up 20 year old RHP Erik Moniah, who was drafted in the 13th round of the 2014 MLB amateur draft. He pitched for Class-A Brooklyn this year with a 5-5 record and a 5.37 ERA and a 9.1 K/9 in 13 games. He has started 12 games this season.
