The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-0 this afternoon at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 64-59.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the second, 1B Pete Alonso hit a lead-off homer of his own.

In the bottom of the fourth, LF Brandon Nimmo tripled with one out and then D.H. J.D. Davis followed with a walk.

Two batters later, RF Jesse Winker singled and then Nimmo scored on an error.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lindor walked with two outs and then 3B Mark Vientos continued his torrid stretch at the plate with a RBI double.

RHP Luis Severino had a spectacular outing in his best start of the year with a complete game shutout.

Severino allowed four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.

He was in complete command of all his pitches especially his fastball, slider and change-up.

Severino gave the bullpen a much needed rest and attacked the zone from the beginning of the game and was a lot of fun to watch.

It was his first complete-game shutout since 2018 and was the first Met to throw a complete-game shutout since Jacob deGrom in 2021.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.91.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 18 at home against the Marlins at noon.
